First Time Marathoners – We want to hear from you!

We’ve had a media request for stories from runners who have never competed in a marathon before and the Honda Los Angeles Marathon presented by K-Swiss is their very first.  If you are a marathon first-timer, please email Jan Fambro at jfambro@speedworksllc.com who is working on our media relations team.  Some of the things the media might be interested in knowing are:

  • Why did you decide to run a marathon?  e.g., this is on your Bucket List
  • What is your time goal?
  • Do you have a training regime, a training support group?
  • Will you have a training support group at the event on the 21st?  Where will they be?  What will they be doing?
  • What are you most nervous/concerned about? Most excited about?
  • Do you have any “rituals” when you train or that you are going to do before/during the race?
  • Interesting training stories?
  • Other things you’d like to share about your experience so far?

Thanks and keep training!  It will pay off soon!

I cna’t believe that the Marathon Bike Tour has been “postponed” to a later date !! Are you serious?? Over 10,000 cyclisy normally participate.

Betcha it never happens. . .

I wish I’d known six months ago what I know now. If you’re going to make a fifty-two-year old engine perform, you’d better feed it high-test. Every calorie counts, and the less processed, the better. I’ve discovered Greek yogurt, tart cherry juice, balsamic currants, kale, flax seed bread.

The following things have helped my old-lady-runner aches: around-the-clock Motrin, Flector patches, ICE! Have read that red wine vinegar also helps, and am tempted to try Vicks’.

You’ll be able to pick me out of the crowd that Sunday; I’ll be the tall, gray-haired chick that smells like a pickle with a cold.

Hi everyone! my name is Mario. I am only 42.5 years young, and I decided to do the LA Marathon so I can have another adventurous story to share with my future grandkids. I have always been athletic and thought I was in great shape until I decided to do the LA Marathon. Boy, this is awesome! Once you train for a marathon, you find out what shape you are in, mentally and physically.
I have trained on my own with my blue gray pit bull as a runinng partner. We run every other day and 1 hr. prior to our runs, my ritual is to eat an apple, activia yogurt, take some natural energy gels and give thanks to the Lord for allowing me to be able to run. I proclaim to be self trained by little reading on the LA Marathon website and asking questions. By the way my dog can run the marathon with no problem, she’s in great shape. She is such a sweetheart but people fear her in the streets because of her physique, do to 6 months training you could imagine what she looks like. It is so funny she is afraid of my cat! LOL! Now that I am ready for the arduous 26.2 miles at a 4.5 hour pace or sooner, I feel I am in better shape, than when I thought I was in.
I am so apprehensive, like a kid awaits X-mas day. I need to know my finish time!!
Next year, If God permits, I would like to finish in under 4hrs.
Well, have a good evening and may God bless you in your endeavor.
