Blessing of the Shoes on Saturday

The Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels (555 West Temple Street in Downtown Los Angeles) will offer the annual Ceremony for the Blessing of the Running Shoes and Participants. Runners are invited to bring their running shoes and gather with the Cathedral Clergy on the Upper Cathedral Plaza at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 8, for this special blessing. All are welcome to attend and join in this special prayer.

Preparing to run the LA Marathon?

What do runners do on the day before the LA Marathon?

From practice runs to carbo-loading, everyone has a favorite method of preparation.  The Cathedral extends an invitation to all runners to the annual Blessing of the Shoes.  While we cannot guarantee a marathon win, we can offer support and prayers as you prepare for your 26.2 mile journey.

LA Leggers Meeting

This morning Russ and I paid a visit to the post race meeting at the weekly LA Leggers training run in Santa Monica. It was a pleasure to take everyone through the race route and answering all manner of questions about the inaugural Stadium to the Sea edition of the LA Marathon. We even got many great suggestions, which is important. As much as possible, we’re trying to create a two-way dialogue with our runners, and all of your feedback is meaningful. Thanks to President Ken Sewell and all of the LA Leggers for hosting us this morning.

Training Energy is Peaking!

While Russ and I were standing in Palisades Park this morning, we must have seen over 500 runners go by in 15 minutes. Nearly all of them putting in their final longish run before the 25th Honda LA Marathon. Our LA Roadrunners had groups of up to 100 runners. The energy was off the charts—runners were high-fiving us, taking photos of each other and even running in costume. How pumped is the LA running world for this race? We hear you loud and clear, Los Angeles, and our staff has been working overtime for months now to deliver a memorable race day. We can’t wait to see all of you on the Start line on Sunday morning.

Seen in Santa Monica Today

You know it’s LA Marathon season in Los Angeles when you start seeing license plates like this. As I was on my way to speak to the LA Leggers runners this morning I happened to pull up behind this car on San Vicente. Just happened to have my camera handy. Live to run, run to live!

Look for Our Official Honda Vehicles on the Road!

Honda has generously provided LA Marathon staff with three vehicles that can now be seen crisscrossing the city. You may see our Odyssey, our Pilot or our Accord at various places over the next week. Honk and say “Hi!” I certainly saw a number of you out on your training runs in Santa Monica this morning .

Here’s another batch of celebs talking about the Stadium to the Sea route. They all had very definite opinions about the section of the course that appealed to them, even Phineas & Ferb!
