Wonderland Avenue Walkathon

On Monday I was invited to speak with 500 students at Wonderland Avenue Elementary School in Los Angeles. As the guest of 3rd grade teacher, and LA Marathon runner, Zach Earl, I got to take part in the first-ever walkathon at the school. They walked enough laps of the yard to equal a 5K distance. I spoke briefly to the excited student body about how running is really just a fun way to get outside and how sports and fitness have led to so many important things in my life. It really was a privilege, and I enjoyed getting to know both Zach and principal Don Wilson. I always find it heartening to meet school leaders who are not only committed to the quality of the education but also understanding of the importance of promoting a fun and active lifestyle. That is certainly the case at Wonderland. Importantly, the kids raised over $40,000 in one morning of walking. Congratulations to everyone involved!
