Premier Charity: Team World Vision

TWVphoto_01Globally, an estimated 768 million people live without access to safe water. Every day in Africa, people – mainly women and children – walk on average six miles round trip in their search for water – any kind of water. Close to 2,000 children (under the age of five) die every day from diarrheal diseases, and approximately 1,800 of these deaths are linked to water, sanitation and hygiene.

Team World Vision runners run marathons and half marathons to END that cycle. 80% of our runners have never run before Team World Vision. We are united by a PASSION to provide clean water in Africa. No other essential has a more dramatic effect on a child’s life than clean water. In fact, combined with improved sanitation – including access to safe toilets, as well as training in hygiene – access to clean water can immediately cut child deaths by more than half.

World Vision partners with local villages, equipping leaders there to develop, maintain and administer clean water resources – over ten technologies in all, from bore hole wells to rain water catchments. World Vision provides more clean water worldwide than any other charity, reaching another person with clean drinking water every 30 seconds. Team World Vision runners run for LONG-LASTING water projects, developed locally, and our goal is to provide water for life for every mile we run. $50 donated through World Vision provides one person with water for life.

The children and families we run for spend eight to ten hours every day fetching dirty water, putting themselves at risk of violence – even kidnapping – and putting their family at risk of malaria, guinea worm and dysentery. When our runners fundraise $50 per mile and a community gains access to clean water, we shut down that cycle. Children no longer fetch for ten hours a day – they’re in school. Parents are free to start businesses and tend farms. Families prosper. Hope returns.
