Thai Town

With the help of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, Los Angeles became home to the largest Thai population outside of Thailand.

ASICS LA MARATHON: MILE 9

After exiting Little Armenia, runners are immediately propelled into this unique area on Hollywood Blvd.

NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS

Thai Town began in the 1960s and further grew in the 80s and is home to many Thai restaurants, markets, and stores. Similar to Los Angeles, Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok is referred to as “the City of Angels.”

Songkran

The first Sunday in April is devoted to Thai New Year, which like the ASICS LA Marathon, incorporates the closure of portions of Hollywood Blvd. Along with a parade down Hollywood Blvd, various food stands and entertainment activities are arranged along the street. One celebration associated with Songkran is the tradition of throwing water. Thais roam the streets with containers of water and drench each other and passersby.
