Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions about the 2011 Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss.
REGISTRATION
- How can I register? Online registration is available HERE. Online registration will close on Friday, March 11 at 11:59pm or when we reach our registration cap whichever happens sooner.
- What are the entry fees? Marathon – $TBD, 5K – $TBD, The race is capped at TBD entrants. Once that number of registrants is reached, the 2011 race will be sold out. (Pricing and cap info coming soon!)
- Do you send out confirmation cards? Those who have provided an email address will receive confirmation and bib #’s via email in early March. If you have not provided us with an email address, simply bring your photo ID to the expo and you will be able to look up your bib # when you arrive. You can also check your registration status and bib # online HERE.
- What is my bib #? Bib #’s will be assigned and sent out to the participants in early March.
- Do you give refunds if I can’t make the race? We adhere to the standard marathon running industry policy. All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. This is noted on our registration application, and when you register for any of our events you must agree to this policy. You may not give or sell your number to another individual – if you do this could result in your disqualification as well as the runner who uses your race number.The entry fee for this year’s event will NOT transfer to next year’s event, no exceptions. This policies stays in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected business or family emergency, pregnancy, etc. There are NO exceptions. Any inquiry regarding this policy will be directed back to this page.
- Is there an age requirement for the 5K or Marathon? No
- Is there group registration? We do not offer group registration
- How can I be placed in a corral group? To submit application for placement in the sub-3, sub-4 or sub-5 hour Corrals, enter the race name, date, and qualifying time in the appropriate location with your online entry and the marathon office will verify authenticity. It is your responsibility to check final verification through the Registration Confirmation link. Your finishing time must be from a full marathon run within the past 12 months. If you run a faster marathon after registering for the 2011 Honda LA Marathon, you can send proof of this finish to 310.271.7202 or info@lamarathon.com. Corral requests must be received by January 1, 2011.
- Can I run the Marathon without registering? No, all runners without Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss bibs will be directed off the course immediately.
RACE
- What is the date of the marathon? Sunday, March 20
- What time does the race start? Wheelchairs – 6:55am, Hand cycles – 7:00am, All other participants – 7:24am
- Where does the race start and finish? The race starts at Dodger Stadium, 1000 Elysian Park Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90012. The race ends on Ocean Avenue and Santa Monica Blvd. in Santa Monica.
- The Marathon course is point to point. What’s the best way to get to the start? Please visit our Parking/Shuttles page for more information.
- Do you allow iPods/mp3 players? Yes.
- Do all participants receive finisher medals? All finishers in the Marathon and LA 5K will receive medals
- Will you be mailing out finisher certificates? Your Marathon finish time will be posted on our website after the race and you will receive an email message the evening after the race with your results. Official results and an Electronic Finisher Certificate will be emailed to all finishers 30 days after the race.
- Is the Marathon course a certified course? The course has been certified by USA Track & Field and is a Boston Marathon qualifier.
- Are walkers permitted? Yes, walkers and race walkers are part of the L.A. Marathon. However, walkers are asked to start near the end of the pack to avoid being crowded or bumped by the faster participants. It is suggested that walkers and slower participants consider using a fanny pack that accommodates a water bottle.
- Is there a time limit to complete the Marathon? No, however streets re-open to traffic at an approximately 13-minute per mile pace. At that time, participants still on the course will be required to move into the curb lane or on to the sidewalk and obey all traffic signals. The finish line will remain open to an 8 hour time limit. This time limit will be strictly enforced.
- How will by time be recorded? The 2011 Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss will be using the Chronotrack B-Tag timing system. Your timing chip will be attached to the back of your bib and you need not remove the chip from the bib. You must wear your bib on the front of your shirt to receive your official time.
- Are wheelchair participants permitted? Yes, there is a separate wheelchair division.
- Are skates, skateboards, bikes or carriages of any kind allowed on the Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss course? No, if you are caught on the Marathon course with any of these, you will be directed off the course immediately.
COURSE SUPPORT
- How many water stations will have sports drink? 12 stations – every odd mile starting at Mile 3
- What flavor sports drink will you be offering on the course? TBD
- What time will the finish line close and stop timing? 8 hours after the race start
- Will there be food provided along the course? There will be water at 25 locations along the course (approximately at each mile) and sports drink at 12 stations (every odd mile starting at mile 3).
- How many clocks on the course? 25, one at every mile except Mile 26.
PACKET PICK UP
- Do you have race day packet pick up? We DO NOT have race day packet pick up for the Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss. The LA Marathon 5K is the only event that will have race day pick up.
- Where/when do I pick up my packet? Race packets (race bib, timing chip, participant shirt, gear check bag) must be picked up at Dodger Stadium on Friday, March 18th or Saturday, March 19th. There will be NO RACE DAY PACKET PICK UP for the Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss. The LA Marathon 5K will have packet pick up near the start of the race on race day.
- What is the parking fee at Dodger Stadium for the Expo? Parking for the Expo is free.
OTHER
- Will there be a Bike Tour this year? The bike tour has been postponed and will not take place on the day of the marathon.
- Will there be a 5k this year? Yes, the LA 5K will be held at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 8:00am. It will start at the official marathon start line, run around the beautiful neighborhoods of Elysian Park around the Stadium and will finish adjacent to the start line.
- Who are the Title and Presenting sponsors of the marathon? Honda is the title sponsor. K-Swiss is the presenting sponsor.
- Will the race be televised? Yes, on KTLA Channel 5 from 7am – 10am on March 20.
- Who is the Official Radio Partner? Clear Channel is the Official Radio Partner with 8 FM stations partnering with the Marathon and KLAC 570-AM broadcasting the race on the morning of March 20th from 7am – 10am.
- What are the new City Block Parties being held on race day? These are festivals that will take place along the route during and after the race. The Block Parties will include music, merchandise and food sales and special cheering sections so spectators can root for friends and family in the race or the elite runners at the front of the pack. A different Clear Channel radio station wil host the entertainment at each City Block party. Locations include, Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the Finish Line Festival in Santa Monica.
- How can my friends and family find me after the race? Our family reunion area will be located near the finish line in Santa Monica. We will be posting maps and details in early 2011. In February, we will post on our website parking instructions for those driving directly to the finish in Santa Monica.
- How can I purchase photos from previous years marathon? Photos were taken by Marathon Foto and can be found on their website, www.marathonfoto.com.
- How do I volunteer for the Los Angeles Marathon?
