Chris McDougall in the house

You may have seen my mini-review a couple weeks back of Chris McDougall’s terrific book Born to Run. He was recently in Los Angeles and stopped by LA Marathon HQ to say hi. We talked Chris into sitting down for a quick interview. Here’s what he had to say.
Tonight’s the night
That’s right, registration for the 2010 Los Angeles Marathon opens tonight at midnight. By now you probably know all about the new date–March 21st, 2010–and the new Stadium to Sea course. All that’s left is to swing by our new-look website and register. While you’re there, check out the video we just completed, which is a lot of fun.
Santa Monica needs to hear you!

We’re almost exactly where we want to be with this great (and soon to be greater!) race. The Los Angeles Marathon will take place on Sunday, March 21st, 2010 on a Stadium-to-Sea course. This route will highlight the icons of Los Angeles, and we’d like to include Santa Monica on that list. This Tuesday, July 28th the Santa Monica City Council will vote on whether to allow the Los Angeles Marathon to run through Santa Monica. Would you please sign this petition urging the Santa Monica City Council to give their thumbs up to that concept? Santa Monica will be an important and great part of the new LA Marathon, and you can help us get there!
2010 Los Angeles Marathon – LA City Council to vote on date change
As many of you may have heard a motion to move the date of the LA Marathon from 2010 and beyond back to a Sunday in March will be voted on by the Los Angeles City Council this Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10:00am. This is the day we’ve been waiting for, the culmination of months of hard work by a variety of constituencies-runners, non-profits, volunteers, students, select clergy, and race management, among many others.
There’s nothing that will make our case more strongly than the presence of as many of you as possible, with those of you who are so inclined speaking in favor of the motion. If there’s any way you can join us, please do, and come dressed in your medals, your Marathon hats, and Marathon t-shirts-anything that identifies you as someone who supports our cause.
Again, it’s this Tuesday, July 21st at Los Angeles City Hall:

John Ferraro Council Chamber, Room 340

Thank you for your support. See you Tuesday and on the road!
