“On Your Mark, Get Set, Go Green!”

This week our sustainability efforts made the front page of YourDailyThread.com- a green lifestyle blog based here in Los Angeles! YDT founder Tracy Helper and Reel Green Media producer Lauren Selman have teamed up to write a “We Run Green” column on how training for the marathon can be more sustainable. We’re proud to share that the Council for Responsible Sport certified the 2009 LA Marathon as a green event and we’re continuing these efforts this year. Highlights from our sustainability program for 2010 include a new timing strategy built into your bibs (no D-Tags!), a new rideshare partner PickupPal, and Heatsheet recycling. Keep your eyes peeled for these great additions on race day. Click here to read “On Your Mark, Get Set, Go Green!”

Help Green Our Race, Sign Up As An Eco-Volunteer!

We want the 2010 LA Marathon to be the greenest ever and we need your help! All volunteers interested in making our race day more sustainable can sign up to be a part of the LA Marathon Eco-Volunteer Team. Eco-Volunteers should be enthusiastic about improving Los Angeles’ natural environment, committed to raising awareness about the impact of major sporting events and ready to put in some elbow grease! Projects include post-race heat sheet and gear check bag collection, acting as green ambassadors at recycling stations, working at water stations to gather packaging materials and much, much more!

Team World Vision Raising Funds for Haiti

By now you’re all aware of the tragic earthquake in Haiti and the unfolding crisis there.  What you may not know is that one of our Official Charities, Team World Vision, has worked in Haiti for 30 years.  They now have almost 400 team members on the ground there distributing emergency health services to the injured.  Team World Vision is now offering runners the chance to run the NPN LA 5K to raise funds for relief in Haiti.  This is an opportunity that any runner can take advantage of.  If you have not yet signed up for the 5K, please consider this chance to make a difference in Haiti.
